NordPass was released in a saturated market of Password Managers back in 2019, created by NordSec, the cybersecurity team behind one of the top-rated VPN services, NordVPN. However, can we expect the same from NordPass to bring any innovative technology to this crowded marketplace?
NordPass focuses on security, simplicity, and effectiveness – NordSec, the team behind NordPass, has the potential to create incredible cybersecurity features. Nordpass might not have all the attractive features of market veterans yet, but it provides some bonus security features comparable to none.
What Is NordPass?
NordPass is one of the most secure Password Manager that you can use on almost all platforms like Mobile, Desktop, and Tablet. It lets you generate, store, and manage all of your online accounts’ passwords in one place.
The benefit of NordPass Password Manager is that you do not need to remember any of your passwords. It not only makes logging into your accounts a lot quicker and more comfortable, but it also lets you create and set a unique and robust password for each of your online accounts that you never need to worry about remembering. So your accounts will be much safer than they would be if you used the same easy-to-remember password for everything.
NordPass – Does It Make NordVPN Proud?
Tenficom & Co’s NordVPN is serving them well in the VPN market; the world is pretty happy that they have decided to foray into the Password Manager niche, providing us with an affordable alternative to the competition out there.
Although the establishment of NordPass took place in late 2019, the tech developers have been working on NordVPN since 2012, giving them eight solid years of experience in the internet security industry.
The company is not a part of Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, or Fourteen Eyes intelligence alliances. It operates outside of Panama, which allows them to keep their user’s data private. It means that no one can invoke the law to force Tenficom to share their data whatsoever, which is excellent news for those who like to keep our data private. However, lately, Tefincom was in hot waters due to a data breach in one of its servers, which caused the leakage of about 2,000 credentials in early 2018.
This data breach forced the company to seek zero-knowledge architecture, a security protocol that ensures that no one will have access to your data except you. With this new feature, Tefincom realized that they could develop another significant revenue stream with a Password Manager, which led to the development of NordPass.

NordPass uses all the necessary security measures such as complex encryptions, automatic back-ups, Two-Factor Authentication, and more as standard to keep your credentials safe without impacting the user experience.
– Master Password
Like other Password Managers, NordPass requires you to set a Master Password to unlock your account. You need to set a complex and robust password. By Complex Password, we mean a string that contains a random selection of Lowercase, Uppercase Letters, Symbols, and digits.
If you face trouble deciding on a Strong password, you can use NordPass Password Generator to provide you with a password that fits all your requirements. However, as all NordPass Passwords are encrypted, you will need to remember your Master Password as No one except you will have access to your Master Password, not even the Customer Service Team.
The only way to recover your Master Password is by using the recovery code that appears on the screen when you first sign up. You need to keep this code in a safe and secure place, as this is the only option to recover your account if you forget your Master Password.
– Two-Factor Authentication
Although Two-Factor Authentication does not switch on by default, it is relatively easy to add it to your NordPass account. Two-Factor Authentication offers an added layer of security and sends you a unique code to enter each time you log in.
– Biometric Authentication
One of the widely used features for NordPass is its Biometric Authentication. Instead of using your Master Password every time you want to log in to your account, you can set up biometric verification and use your fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock your account.
It only works with devices with the feature of Biometric Verification, like the latest smartphones and laptops. Otherwise, you would need to type in your Master Password for every login.
Instead of using the industry-standard AES 256-bit encryption, NordPass has opted for the more modern XChaCha20 Encryption. The new algorithm is three times faster than AES 256-bit Encryption, so it is not hard to see why so many Silicon Valley companies are switching.
As all Passwords are end-to-end encrypted, even NordPass cannot access your login details.
Secure Backup And Sync
NordPass stores your credentials in the cloud to ensure the safety of your data so that you can retrieve it even if your device is broken or stolen. The information is encrypted with your Master Password so that only you can access them.
NordPass provides their user with all the essential features that you expect from a Password Manager, like syncing and saving all of your Passwords, Auto-Filling forms, and generating new and secure passwords whenever you need one.
Let us discuss the Features NordPass has to offer:
Auto-Saving And Auto-Filling
Like every top Password Manager, NordPass lets you save all of your Password automatically. Whenever you log in to a website or an Application for the first time, NordPass will prompt you to save your password.
Then, anytime you want to access your account, NordPass will auto-fill your saved credential and log you in by default. NordPass saves you the hassle of remembering every single one of your Passwords and filling them in every time you want to access your account. Since you do not have to remember your Passwords, you can choose some complex and diverse passwords that are much more secure, making your account a lot safer.
Importing Existing Password
You can easily import your existing credentials across multiple platforms to NordPass. You can import them in bulk by exporting your Passwords in a CSV file from Web Browsers or other Password Managers. Alternatively, you can add them manually by following the step-by-step instructions in the settings.
Generating Unique Passwords
Are you struggling to come up with complex and diverse passwords? NordPass will do it for you. NordPass online password generator helps you create a complex password. You can choose your Password length (that can be up to 60 characters) if you want to use Uppercase and Lowercase letters, Digits, and Symbols in your Passwords.
Data Breach Scanner
NordPass has a Data Breach Monitoring feature. It works the same way as Password Monitoring that is available in most top-rated Password Managers. It automatically scans for breached databases, monitoring whether they have your credentials. The alerts are not limited to your account credentials but credit card details as well. That way, you can avoid unauthorized logins to your account and heavy financial losses.
Such breaches open up a floodgate for hackers to try credential stuffing – reusing your already known email/password combinations on other websites. Most users use similar passwords on most websites, making it easier for cybercriminals to access your other accounts.NordPass protects its users by generating a secure password, store, and autofill it so that the user does not have to memorize their complex passwords. Additionally, it always warns you about known data breaches.
Sharing Login Details
Sometimes you need to give your family or friends access to a shared account, or you might need to provide a password to a trusted contact.
With NordPass Premium Account, you can share your credentials securely. You can choose whichever password you want to share, type in the recipient’s email address, and it will encrypt the password before transmitting it so that only the recipient will be able to use it.
Syncing With Other Devices
You can sync up to six devices with your NordPass account. Moreover, to make this experience seamless, NordPass automatically syncs all your devices and backs up your data to the cloud.
Whenever you add a new Password, you would automatically see it synced to all of your devices.
NordPass Free Version only lets you use NordPass on one device at a time. If you are using NordPass on a Desktop, and now you want to use it on your smartphone, you have to log out of your Desktop to log in to your smartphone. However, the Premium Version lets you stay logged in on all six devices simultaneously.
If you have many passwords you need to store, you can organize them into folders. So you can have one for work, one for social media accounts, one for shopping apps, and others.
It is a nice little feature and one of the most user-friendly ones we have tested.
OCR Scanning is not the most significant feature, but it is another useful extra that shows NordPass has thought about making things easy for its customers. You can Scan information from any written documents to images and credit cards. So you can save essential data in a written form.
If you want to access your data on NordPass, but you are at an event where WiFi is not available. Do not worry; you can use NordPass on your iOS and Android devices while being offline.
Your entire vault will be available to you in a user-friendly interface that is reminiscent of how your phone sets up your contacts.
NordPass has plenty of benefits, but it comes with a few drawbacks, including limited secure sharing features and no easy-to-access form capture.
Limited Secure Sharing Features
NordPass offers Password sharing between other NordPass users and creates shared folders that multiple users can access. However, currently, this feature is only available for premium users. Free users can access shared files but cannot create new files or share across multiple devices.
No Easy-To Access Form Capture
Form Capture allows you to create and share a form with clients to input their sensitive information that you do not want to share on any other unsecured platform. Instead, the data goes directly to your encrypted vault.
Unlike Dashlane and 1Password, NordPass does not offer this feature.
While selecting a Password Manager, you need to make sure that the Password Manager is available on the Platform you want to use it on.
Luckily, NordPass supports most of the Platforms available, including;
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
|Free (Singles User)
|Unlimited Passwords, Password Generator, Credit Card Info Storage, Secure Notes, Sync Across Devices, One active device at the time
|Premium (Six Users)
|Everything in Free + Six Active Devices, Secure Item Sharing, Trusted Contacts, Password Health, Data Breach Scanner
You can signup for a free account. You can opt for NordPass Premium Account starting at $1.49/mo, a very competitive price for other Password Managers.
However, what is the significant difference between the free and premium plans?
Free Vs. Premium
The free NordPass Account provides you with:
- unlimited password storage
- Allows you to store credit card and notes
- Available for a single device.
- It will not let you add trusted contacts.
- Does not check password health
Meanwhile, the NordPass Premium contains:
- unlimited password storage
- Allows you to store credit cards and notes
- Available for six devices, simultaneous usage.
- Offers secure item sharing
- Includes trusted contacts
- Check’s Password Health
Overall, the free version of NordPass provides you with all the essential features, so as long as you do not mind logging back in, you can go ahead with a free account after switching devices.
However, if you are looking for all the advanced features, you can always opt for the premium package.
How To Use NordPass
NordPass is a user-friendly application, so it is relatively easy to use.
First, you need to visit nordpass.com and Navigate your cursor over to the top-right corner and click on “Login.” If you already have an account, you can log in. Otherwise, you can click on “Create An Account” and follow the guidelines.
As soon as you set up your account, a recovery code will appear on your screen. As we have previously discussed in this article, if you ever get locked out of your account, your recovery key will be the only way to get your account back.
After logging in to your NordPass, it will ask you to import all of your current passwords from your Web Browsers or Old Password Manager. The easiest way to do this is by using a CSV file to upload passwords in bulk. In keeping with the NordPass User-Friendly approach, you will be presented with how-to guides to import passwords to your NordPass.
Navigating in NordPass is straightforward. Everything is easy to find, and it gives you handy prompts to make your life easier.
How to Use NordPass Mobile App
NordPass mobile app is as simple and intuitive as the desktop version. Setting up NordPass on Android is incredibly quick and easy to set up. It has all the same features, including a credit card scanner and secure folders to save sensitive data.
NordPass Customer Support
For any query, you can always email Support@nordpass.com, and someone will get back to you to help resolve your issue. There is also a live chat option, which you can access via their customer support website.
Although customer support is not always useful, it takes about 2-4 hours to get in touch with a customer support representative. NordPass has loads of handy how-to guides and a convenient search function that will answer your questions.
Is NordPass Included With NordVPN?
NordVPN omits NordPass. You can choose to add NordPass Premium to your basket when you sign up for NordVPN, but it is still the same price as it is individually. There’s no advantage to signing up for both simultaneously aside from the convenience of doing both in one transaction.
Should I Get NordPass?
When Tefincom first introduced the world to NordPass, I was surprised to see a Password Manager with few features.
NordPass does not suffer from the same bugs as other Password Managers because NordPass never tried to do a couple of things at once. NordPass only does what it has been designed to do, and it does it well.
NordPass’s Desktop Apps, Browser Extensions, and Mobile Apps work pretty well. NordPass is highly secure, and its support team is quick and helpful. If you are trying a clean, simple password manager with excellent password security, NordPass is worth trying.
